Frequently asked questions

I downloaded one of your Excel-based software products but the Excel on my computer cannot read the file - what's wrong?

Our software products are delivered within a specialised file format called a zip file. Zip files allow us to compress the large Excel and software manual files into a single, much smaller file so that download time to you is minimised.

You need to open the zip file and extract the Excel and manuals from the file. Many computers already have software loaded that will do this task - double click on the zip file's filename and, if the right software is on your machine, a wizard will appear on your screen that'll guide you through the "unzipping" process.

If you don't have software for unzipping files, then there are several sites on the web from where you can download free unzipping software.

I'm having lots of trouble downloading the technical bulletins in their pdf form. What can I do?

Sometimes, clicking a PDF link results in a blank page or some other problem. A common cause for these problems is a mismatch between your Adobe Reader version and your browser version.

The easiest way to view a troublesome PDF is save it outside the browser:

  • Right-click the PDF link above and choose "Save Target As..." (or "Save Link As...") to save the PDF to a location of your choice (your Desktop, for example)
  • Double-click the saved PDF to open it.

Another way to avoid PDF problems is to change a setting in your Adobe Reader.

  • Open the Reader and in Edit | Preferences | Options (or Edit | Preferences | Internet)
  • Un-tick "Display PDF in browser"

When you next click on a PDF link on the web you'll get an option to open the PDF from its current location or save it to disk. Choose "Open from current location" and it will open in a separate Acrobat window rather than within the browser.
